After final preparations and packing the plane with safety equipment (which included a keg of swabian beer which is key to survive a week in the US), we after months of preparation took off and started the trip towards Wisconsin, USA. Leg one of seven from Stuttgart to Le Touquet (600km) went smooth and fast (1:12h). The reason for the stop here is a group of TBM crews that we found on the internet (thanks to David Fabry from FlyingSmart for organizing this trip and making it an unforgettable experience) flying to Oshkosh together with 5 planes and Le Touquet is the meeting Point before the start of the Atlantic crossing (which officially is the route between Scotland and Canada) tomorrow.
Originally we planned to make this trip alone, however travelling with some pilots who did it before and are able to share their experience turned out to be extremely helpful and we would certainly have missed some of the highlights of this adventure – including the low flying around the icebergs in the Fjort south of Illulisat, Greenland and Mackinac Island.
Day 2s routing starts in Le Touquet and leads Prestwick, Scotland for a fuel stop that was initially not planned. Strong, northerly winds are preventing us from making Le Touquet – Reykjavik in one go.
